Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Internship 

focuses on interdisciplinary projects in various STEM fields. Interns will receive hands-on experience as members of a research group, carrying out fundamental work in areas pertaining to NIWC Pacific. 

Open to ALL qualified Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) students.

Internship Highlights

  • In-person summer mentored research internship (June 2, 2025 to August 7, 2025) at NIWC Pacific in Point Loma, San Diego.
  • Up to $5,000 internship stipend.
  • Access to work-based research facilities carrying out fundamental work in areas pertaining to NIWC Pacific.
  • Hands-on technical and skills training focused on interdisciplinary projects in various STEM fields.
  • Networking and professional development opportunities.
  • Enroll in a Work Experience Education course (290) in Summer 2025. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Majoring in any of the following: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Completed some college level Math or Physics (Math 250 & Physics 270 preferred).
  • Plan to transfer to a 4-year institution from SWC.
  • 3.0 GPA or above preferred.
  • Dedicate at least 15 to 20 hours per week to the internship. 
  • Able to commit to internship dates and requirements.
  • U.S. Citizenship required. 
  • Applications claiming dual citizenship may not be eligible.

Applicant Interviews (DATES HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED)
We will contact selected candidates between April 14-16 to schedule an in-person, 30 minute interview on either of the following dates:

  • Thursday, April 17, 2025, between 4:40pm - 6:40pm
  • Friday, April 18, 2025, between 9:30am - 11:30am

SDSU Summer Undergraduate Research Academy

Who should apply:

  • MESA undergraduate students interested in Research; whether Industry or Graduate School is intended
  • Preferred: Junior, Senior, rising sophomore considered
  • Completion of particular prep for major courses may be required

    No prior research required!
    Program Dates: June 2 - July 25, 2025

Application Deadline: March 14, 2025!

  • Minimum 25 hours a week in lab

  • Poster presentation

Scripps Institute Research 

Summer research opportunity for 色界吧 STEM students majoring in Biology and Chemistry:
1.  Interested in research and its applications, especially in the fields of Neurobiology, Microbiology, Immunology, and/or Chemical Biology (Explore more at ) 
2.  Planning to transfer from SWC to a 4-year college or university
3.  Completed some core STEM classes towards their major
4.  3.0 GPA or above preferred
 
Dates: June 2nd - August 8th 2025 (In-Person at Scripps Research in La Jolla)

Program benefits include:

Border Region Talent Pipeline Paid Summer 2025 Internship

This summer internship opportunity is available to students interested in gaining work experience in different areas of business, computing, or engineering.

NASA/California Space Grant Consortium Microcomputer & Robotics Internship

The MESA Program & UCSD/NASA Space Program invite you to join a team of Southwestern students to learn from on this project-based experience!

Projects will be centered around the use of low-cost programmable microcomputers (Arduino based) to collect, store, and transmit in-field sensor and GPS locator data, as well as drive a controller. Previous projects included onboard experiments involving near-space ballooning, launch vehicles, small satellites, remote controlled aircraft, and ground robotics. Non-aerospace projects included wearable sensor vests or helmets for sports and health monitoring, or earth science experiments. 

The UCSD/NASA Space Program will provide participants with:

  • $650 scholarship award for each participant
  • Arduino kits and supply stipends for team projects
  • Fieldtrip to a California NASA Research Center
  • NASA Webinars from CA Space Grant Affiliates
  • Faculty mentoring
