You may find it helpful to test your preparedness, and that of your students, to use alternate forms of instruction. We suggest that you perform the following:
-
Send students a welcome email that contains your contact information. Tell students to save this email in a safe place. Maintain a copy for your own records. This ensures that students have your contact information. NOTE: You can use Moodle Announcements to email the entire class.
-
Download a list of student email addresses for your classes via MyÉ«½ç°É → Acad Info & Advising → Advising tab → Class lists to ensure you have students' contact information. These lists are automatically updated through the semester as students add or drop the course.
-
Post an assignment in Canvas. This will give you and your students a chance to become familiar with an environment that you may use if classroom instruction must be interrupted.
-
Use video conferencing to schedule a meeting, phone call, or class activity such as a guest speaker to familiarize yourself with the interface. Include a note in your syllabus with a link to joining a call on a computer or on a mobile device or show students briefly that this is one of the tools you may use as part of the class. This will give you and your students a chance to become familiar with an environment you may use if classroom instruction must be interrupted and Moodle is also unavailable.
-
Post a class assignment in Google Drive and require your students to upload their assignments using a or a or you share with them to enable further work or collaboration. This will give you and your students a chance to become familiar with an environment that you may use if classroom instruction must be interrupted and Moodle is also unavailable.
