Yuhas's research interests include the nature of topographical painting in the Chinese literary tradition, and the transformation of Buddhism and Buddhist art as they spread from India to Central Asia, Tibet, China, and Japan.

She is examining the synchronic nature of Buddhism that evolved in western China in the 12th century represented in surviving sites in Sichuan Province. She has traveled extensively in Asia and compiled an extensive collection of photographs of Asian art and architecture. Her courses include Introduction to Asian Art, Art in Early China, Art in Later China, Art of Japan, and Japanese Painting. Seminar topics have included the nature of official patronage in imperial and communist China, the art of Tibet, and Buddhist art on the Silk Road.
