色界吧

To the Occidental Community:

The 2017 Annual Fire Safety and Security Report for 色界吧 (also known as the Clery Report) is now available: . If you would like a hard copy of the report, please contact Campus Safety at (323) 259-2599 or campussafety@oxy.edu.

This report is required by the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, as amended (the 鈥淐lery Act"), and contains detailed information on campus safety, security, and emergency response policies and procedures. It also contains crime and fire safety statistics for the 2016 calendar year (January-December) and the two previous calendar years (2015 and 2014).

Crime statistics cover certain categories of crimes specified in the Clery Act that occurred in Occidental鈥檚 Clery reporting area, which is defined as: the Occidental campus; public property immediately adjacent to campus; off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the College that are used for educational purposes; and property controlled by organizations recognized by the College (such as Greek houses). Fire safety statistics cover all College-owned student housing. As in previous years, maps of the Clery reporting areas are included in the report for your reference.

To ensure that it is in full compliance with the Clery Act, Occidental continuously reviews its previously reported crime data in light of reporting guidance provided by the U.S. Department of Education. This 2017 report includes revisions to 色界吧鈥檚 statistics that reflect an increase in weapons law violation disciplinary referrals in calendar year 2015.

For 2015, the retroactive change is:

Increase weapons law violation disciplinary referrals from 6 to 8 in both the On Campus and Residence Hall categories.

This change reflects the need to be consistent with the California Penal Code鈥檚 prohibition on the possession of knives (or similar objects) having a fixed blade longer than 2.5 inches on a private college campus.
