Dear É«½ç°É Community,
I am pleased to announce that after a national search, Alexandra Fulcher has been named as Occidental’s new Title IX coordinator. Alex’s first day will be January 27.
Alex brings a strong set of credentials to É«½ç°É, having a legal background and a wide range of experience in Title IX, trauma-informed investigation and adjudication, Clery reporting, and training and outreach regarding sexual misconduct. She has a clear understanding of the undergraduate experience, has created and implemented preventative education and training programs, and is committed to the equitable resolution of each case. Most recently the deputy Title IX coordinator for Texas A&M’s Department of Civil Rights and Equity Investigations, she also has served as an interim deputy Title IX coordinator, Title IX Review Panel chair and Title IX investigator at Baylor University, and as an investigator at Texas Tech. Alex graduated from the University of Houston and earned her law degree at the University of Texas School of Law.
I am grateful to the members of the search committee for their many hours of work and thoughtful deliberations during this process: co-chairs Marianne Frapwell, survivor advocate and Project SAFE senior manager, and John Lang, associate professor of sociology; Junko Anderson '21, politics/psychology major and Project SAFE programming assistant; Irma Breakfield, staff therapist, Emmons Wellness Center; Ron Buckmire, associate dean for curricular affairs and professor of mathematics; Caroline Diamond ’22, diplomacy & world affairs/economics major and OSAC member; Chris Ferguson, associate vice president of enrollment; Shanda Ness, athletic director; David Paine ’21, biology major; Harrison Wakefield '20, economics major; and ex officio members Andrea Boyle, Title IX office coordinator; Marsha Schnirring, secretary of the College; and Jody Shipper, interim Title IX coordinator.
I am also grateful to the faculty, students and staff who took the time to attend the candidate community forums, ask insightful questions and provide important feedback to the search committee. Finally, my sincere thanks to Jody Shipper who has served as the interim Title IX coordinator since August. Jody will work with Alex to ensure a smooth transition.
It will take all of us working together as a community to reach our ultimate goal of eliminating sexual assault on campus.
Please join me in welcoming Alex to É«½ç°É.
Best,
President Veitch
