French Studies

The French program at Occidental introduces you to the rich intellectual, literary, cultural and political traditions of the Francophone world through the study of works from Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and Europe.

Through the program you will develop a set of skills centered around oral and written expression, aural comprehension, critical thinking and literary analysis. There are also numerous study abroad opportunities around the globe to help you perfect your language abilities.

What I find most compelling about studying French is the access you have to a whole other world of literature, thought, and culture. Translations are amazing, but there is something particularly compelling about being able to read and understand another's person's thinking in another language.
