We aim to help students develop as full an understanding as possible of the nature, variety, and causes of behavior in humans and other animals.

Our departmental mission is to aid students in achieving as full an understanding as possible of the nature, variety, and causes of the behavior of humans and other animals. With such understanding should come understanding of oneself and others, including how one differs from others. The level of understanding reached and the ability to express that understanding should enable students who so wish to sustain their exploration of psychology beyond college, including in graduate programs in psychology and psychology-related careers, such as counseling, medicine, law, and education.

Through our program students can expect to develop:
  • A solid knowledge base of psychology that is characterized by both breadth and depth
  • Analytical skills that facilitate the synthesis and critical processing of information
  • An ability to articulate ideas, feelings, and identity, based on self-insights and interpersonal insights
  • Career-relevant skills in general and for specific occupations within the field of psychology
