All members of the É«½ç°É community, including students, are responsible for knowing the following:

I.   POLICY STATEMENT. 

É«½ç°É is committed to providing a safe atmosphere for all members of the campus community as well as guests and visitors to the campus or other College-owned property. This policy governs the possession, storage, or use of weapons in such locations.

II.  APPLICABILITY. 

This policy applies to all members of the É«½ç°É community, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators as well as guests and visitors to the campus or other College-owned property.

III.  DEFINITIONS.  

Weapon – means firearms, explosives of any type (including fireworks), metal knuckles, knives with blades more than 3 inches long, hunting knives, bows and arrows, or any other instrument identified as a weapon in published College policies and the California Penal Code. Weapons also include (1) an item with a lawful purpose (i.e. scissors, kitchen knives, baseball bat, pipe, stick, building material) or (2) items perceived as a weapon (i.e. a fake or toy gun, a pocket knife, or a hand held under clothing to simulate a weapon) when they are used in a manner that could or does result in a threat or act of violence against another person. 

IV.  POLICY.

The possession, storage, brandishing, or use of a Weapon is not permitted anywhere on campus or other College-owned property.

Possessing any type of dangerous chemical (unless authorized for an academic purpose and used and stored consistent with that purpose) is prohibited. This includes combustibles in containers such as gasoline cans.

If a student brings an item to campus which is not explicitly covered by this policy but which, in the Dean of Students’ discretion, poses a danger to the community, the student will be asked to remove it from campus.  Failure to do so is a violation of this policy and can result in a disciplinary sanction. 

Any employee who violates this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
