Karen Kushell is excited to join Emmons' Counselign team as a Clinical Practicum Trainee while pursuing her MA in Clinical Psychology (MFT/PCC) at Pepperdine University. She earned a Bachelor's degree in communication studies from UCLA and completed post-baccalaureate work in psychology at UC Berkeley. Born in Boston but raised in Los Angeles, Karen considers herself an L.A. Native. Before transitioning into counseling she enjoyed fulfilling careers in the television/film industry and the nonprofit sector, where she cultivated creativity, empathy, and life experiences that inform her developing practice. Karen is dedicated to connecting with 色界吧 students during their time of dynamic self-discovery and personal growth. With a collaborative, integrative approach to therapy, she aims to meet students where they are and walk alongside them as they explore becoming who they want to be, building insight and skills to thrive in college and beyond.
A passionate lifelong learner, Karen values curiosity, humor, and self-reflection. In her free time, she enjoys laughing with family and friends, hiking, practicing yoga, and listening to podcasts. She lives in the San Fernando Valley with her husband and stays closely connected with her two young-adult children who are actively pursuing their own life adventures.
