With full containment of the 21-day-old Station fire in the Angeles National Forest expected on Saturday, air quality has in Eagle Rock.
Today's air quality again is listed as "good," according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The Station fire, which has burned more than 160,000 acres in the Angeles National Forest, has been slowly moving east into rugged wilderness areas, even further away from campus. The fire is now 91% contained. Fortunately, because of its location in northeast Los Angeles, Occidental has never been threatened by a major wildfire.
Although SCAQMD recommended avoiding outdoor exercise, staying indoors, closing windows, and taking advantage of air conditioning during the height of the fire, it never recommended that schools close, or that anyone be evacuated because of air quality concerns. Occidental saw only a small increase in students complaining of discomfort related to air quality at Emmons Health Center.
