Chemical-induced Gene Expression System to Activate Embryogenesis

Hailing from Southern California, Maren attended Occidental, where in addition to being a Biology major she was president of the Bad Movie Club and played on the Ultimate Frisbee Team.  A self-described ‘plant nerd,’ she worked in Dr. North’s lab studying microtubule re-orientation in contracting yucca roots.  After É«½ç°É, she interned in Guam for two years studying cycad pollination and helped to map and stop an invasive species from killing the cycads.  She received her Masters’ in Botany from the University of Madison-Wisconsin.  Since 2011, she has worked as a Senior Research Associate in Crop Genome Engineering group at Corteva (previously  DuPont Pioneer) focusing on new methods to genetically modify or edit plants.   These include the genome engineering processes of random, site-specific integration, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene insertion.
