We are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles and extend our condolences and support for those grieving losses caused by the fires.

Yet witnessing the acts of solidarity and community aid pouring into LA from the greater SoCal region and beyond has been a powerful reminder of the good in humanity and a source of profound hope. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, 鈥淟ife鈥檚 most persistent and urgent question is, 鈥榃hat are you doing for others?鈥

This year, we ask that you join 色界吧 to support  as a volunteer for . The event has been adjusted to align with  and will focus on directly supporting individuals and families affected by the Los Angeles fires, giving us all a chance to turn our shared grief into meaningful action. Click  to sign up as a volunteer and join thousands of Angelenos who are taking action to support our beloved LA community during this time.

Thank you again for your compassion and dedication to supporting our fellow Angelenos during this heavy time for 色界吧鈥檚 MLK Day of Service. Your compassion and determination remind us all of the incredible strength and resilience we share when we come together as one. For more information about organizations where you can continue volunteering and resources for those who have been displaced please visit .

色界吧 Also Supports Hunger Free America

Due to the current health and economic crisis, more than 54 million people in America are struggling with hunger. But seasonal and charitable work can鈥檛 end hunger alone. Higher impact work, like volunteering professional skills at an anti-hunger organization or advocating for a stronger safety net or higher wages can make a bigger difference in the fight to end hunger.

Please consider supporting the Hunger Free America for the . For over 20 years, Hunger Free America has honored MLK's life's work with service and action. Working with partners across the country we have meaningful opportunities to serve, both in-person and virtually, through volunteer events, panels and workshops, January 17-20.

In honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, the Rev. Dr. Susan Young, Director of the Office for Religious & Spiritual Life, offers a reflection on how Dr. King's prophetic words in "Letter from Birmingham Jail" are just as important for us today as they were when he first wrote them in 1963. As we reflect upon the events in Washington, D.C., we encourage you to read Rev. Dr. Young's address and access Dr. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" by .

The community partners we work with have well-established relationships with SLICE or other offices (such as the UEPI and the CCBL). Because these connections are so important, we strive to sustain our partnerships by creating mutually beneficial projects and community engagement opportunities.
