President Stritikus addresses the campus community amid the Eaton Fire and other regional wildfires.

Dear Campus Community,

This has been a challenging day for the Occidental community. I know many of you have been directly impacted by the wildfires throughout Southern California, and I want to assure you that we are here for you.

Although these fires continue to burn throughout the region, our campus is not under an evacuation order and has not sustained significant damage. However, campus will continue to be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 9, to give Facilities staff the space to assess and clean up debris. College personnel will work remotely so that essential personnel can provide support and resources to those students who remain on campus. I encourage you to check your email, as well as our Emergency Updates page, for information.

As we continue to navigate the impact of the fires, I want to thank all of you who have assisted in keeping our community safe and informed, both here on campus and remotely. I also want to acknowledge the many people who have reached out to offer their assistance. If you have questions or concerns, please don鈥檛 hesitate to email me, and I look forward to welcoming you back for the start of classes on Jan. 21 and seeing you tomorrow at our community dinner.

Sincerely,

Tom
